In 1987 I started running automated lights on the original Oprah Winfrey Show when she would bring in musical acts. I did this in between tours while at Pete’s Lights from 1987 to 1994.
Toward the end of 1996 my wife and I were starting our family. In an effort to be home more, I started to take on more local work. I had built some connections at NBC over the years and was brought in to be interviewed for the Jenny Jones Shows lighting director job. I was blessed to work on her show from the winter of 1997 to the summer of 1999.
The Jenny Jones Show was in studio A at NBC tower in downtown Chicago and across the hall in studio B was the Jerry Springer Show where I was asked to fill in as lighting director when needed.
In the fall of 1999 I was hired by Upstaging to be a corporate designer and board operator. This lasted from 1999 to 2009 when I left Upstaging to start Mahoney Design Inc. in the fall of 2009.
